Front teeth
Usually a single canal, so treatment tends to be shorter. Cosmetic care afterwards matters, especially if the tooth has darkened.

A root canal saves a tooth that would otherwise have to come out. Done well, it shouldn’t feel worse than a filling. “Painless” is the word our patients use most, in 21 separate Google reviews.
Typical ranges. Molars with several curved canals take longer than a single-root front tooth.
“I was very scaredβ¦ The treatment was painless and felt completely effortless.”
“He explained the procedure clearly and treated me with great care.”
“Wonderful and painless treatmentβ¦ for my daughter's root canal.”

Inside every tooth is soft tissue called the pulp: nerves and blood vessels running down through narrow canals in the root. Deep decay, a crack or an old injury can let bacteria in. Once the pulp is inflamed or infected, it can’t heal on its own.
Sometimes there’s no pain at all and the problem only shows on an X-ray. Pain that suddenly stops doesn’t always mean it’s healed: the nerve may have died.

An instant RVG X-ray shows the canals and any infection at the root tip. We show it to you on screen.
Local anaesthetic numbs the tooth and the area around it before anything else happens.
Through a small opening, the infected pulp is removed. The canals are shaped with rotary instruments and disinfected.
The cleaned canals are filled and sealed so bacteria can’t get back in. Badly infected teeth may get medicine for a few days first.
The tooth is restored with a filling and, for most back teeth, a crown, because root-treated teeth become more brittle.
A check and, where needed, a follow-up X-ray confirm the area around the root is healing.
Usually a single canal, so treatment tends to be shorter. Cosmetic care afterwards matters, especially if the tooth has darkened.
Back teeth have three or four canals, often narrow or curved. This is where rotary instruments and experience make the biggest difference.
If there’s no major infection or swelling, the whole treatment can sometimes be completed in one visit.
With an abscess or swelling, medicine is placed in the canals first and the tooth is sealed at a later visit, once it has settled.
If an old root canal has failed and the tooth hurts again, it can often be re-opened, cleaned and resealed instead of being extracted.
For severe toothache, the first visit can focus on relieving the pain, with the rest of the treatment completed afterwards.

Of our 186+ Google reviews, 37 mention root canal treatment and 21 use the word “painless”. That’s patients’ own experience, not a promise for every tooth, but it’s why many people come to us when a tooth starts hurting.
Read the reviews on GoogleMild tenderness when biting for a few days is normal while the area around the root settles. Root canal treatment has a high success rate, but a few things can affect it:

The tooth is fully numbed, and most patients say it feels like having a filling. It’s usually the infection before treatment that hurts, and the treatment relieves it.
Keeping your natural tooth is usually best for chewing and for the neighbouring teeth. A missing tooth also has to be replaced eventually, with an implant or bridge, which is more involved than saving the tooth.
Often, yes, when there’s no major infection. Teeth with an abscess or swelling usually need two or three visits so the infection can settle first.
For most back teeth, yes. They take heavy chewing forces and are more likely to crack after a root canal. Front teeth with little damage may only need a filling.
Probably. Pain often stops when the nerve dies, but the infection can keep spreading quietly at the root tip. An X-ray will tell us.
We don’t publish price lists, because a front tooth and a curved-canal molar are very different jobs. You’ll get a clear quote after the X-ray, and the consultation is free when you go ahead with treatment.
