How a filling is done at Zenith Dental Care

1📷

See the cavity

We show you the tooth on the intraoral camera and, if needed, take a digital X-ray to see how deep the decay goes.

2💉

Numb the tooth

A local anaesthetic so you’re comfortable throughout.

3🧹

Remove the decay

Only the decayed part is removed, keeping as much healthy tooth as possible.

4🦷

Fill and shape

The tooth is rebuilt with a tooth-coloured filling, shaped to your bite and polished.

5✅

Check your bite

We check the filling isn’t high, so the tooth doesn’t hurt when you chew.

6📅

Keep it healthy

Brushing tips and a check-up every six months, so new cavities are caught small.

🔁 Old or broken fillings

Filling fallen out, cracked or leaking?

Fillings don’t last forever. Over the years they can chip, wear down, or start leaking at the edges, letting decay begin underneath. If a filling has fallen out, the tooth is weaker and more exposed, so get it looked at soon even if it doesn’t hurt.

  • Keep the area clean and avoid chewing hard food on that side.
  • If it’s sensitive, avoid very cold or sweet food until it’s fixed.
  • WhatsApp us a photo and we’ll tell you how soon to come in.

🩺 When a filling isn’t enough

If the cavity is deep

The sooner a cavity is filled, the smaller the treatment. If decay has gone deeper, you’ll know your options and their cost before anything starts.

👑 Crown

When a big part of the tooth is lost, a crown protects it from cracking. Crowns

❓ Questions patients ask

Tooth filling FAQs

Does getting a filling hurt?

The tooth is numbed first, so you feel pressure and vibration but not pain. Mild sensitivity for a few days afterwards is normal and fades.

How long does a tooth filling take?

Usually 30–45 minutes for one tooth, in a single visit. Several fillings can often be done in one sitting.

My filling fell out. Is it urgent?

Not usually an emergency, but book within a few days. The tooth is weaker and food and bacteria get in more easily. Come sooner if it hurts or a piece of tooth broke with it.

Can I eat after a filling?

Yes, once the numbness wears off (usually 2–3 hours), so you don’t bite your cheek. A tooth-coloured filling is set before you leave.

Why does my tooth hurt after a filling?

Some sensitivity to cold for a few days is common after a deep filling. Pain when biting usually means the filling is slightly high, which takes minutes to adjust. Pain that lingers or throbs needs a check.

Can a filled tooth get a cavity again?

Yes, decay can start again at the edge of an old filling. Regular check-ups catch it early, when a small repair is enough.

How much does a tooth filling cost?

It depends on the size of the cavity and the tooth. We don’t publish price lists; you’ll get a written quote before treatment, and the consultation is free if you go ahead with treatment.
